        Each stanza ia a quatrain of seven syllables.

        Lines 1 and 3 rhyme with a triple (3 syllable) rhyme

        Lines 2 and 4 use a double rhyme.

        The poem should end with the first word or first line.

  • Caisbairdne   

        Each stanza is a quatrain of seven syllables.

        Lines 2 and 4 rhyme.

        Lines 1 and 3 consonate with them

        There are two cross-rhymes in each couplet.

        The final syllable of line 4 alliterates with the preceding stressed vowel.

  • Deibhidhe     

        Each stanza is a quatrain of seven syllables.

        Light rhyming in couple

         Alliteration between two words in each line

        The final word of line 4 alliterates with the preceding stressed word.

        There are at least two cross-rhymes between three and four.

  • Droighneach  

        A loose stanza form.  

        Each line has between 9 and 13 syllables ending in a tri-syllabic word.

        There is rhyming between lines 1 & 3 and between lines 2 & 4 etc.

        Stanzas can have any number of quatrains.

        There are at least tweo cross-rhymes in each couplet and alliteration in each line.

        Usually the last word of the line alliterates with the preceding stressed word and this is always true of the last              line.

  • Rannaicheacht Mhor

        A quatrain stanza of seven syllable lines consonating a-b-a-b.

        There are at least two cross-rhymes in each couplet.

        The final word of line 3 rhymes with a word in the interior of line 4.

        In the second couplet, the rhymes must be exact but the first couplet only consonates.

  • Rannaicheacht Bheag

        Similar to Rannaicheacht Mhor except lines 1 and 3 have eight syllables and lines 2 and 4 have six syllables.

  • Rannaicheacht Ghairid

        A quatrain stanza with uneven lines.

        The 1st line has 3 syllables.  The other 3 lines have 7 syllables.

        The stanza rhymes a-a-b-a.

        There is a cross-rhyme between line 3 and 4.

  • Rionnaird Tri-nard

        A quatrain stanza of 16 syllables with disyllabic endings.

        Lines 2 and 4 rhyme and line 3 consonates with them.

        There are two cross-rhymes in the second couplet, none in the first.

        There is alliteration in each line.

        The last syllable of  the 1st line alliterates with the 1st accented word of line 2.

  • Seadhna

        A quatrain stanza of alternating 8 syllable  lines with disyllabic endings with 7 syllable lines with monosyllabic          endings.

        Lines 2 and 4 rhyme. 

         There are two cross-rhymes in the second couplet.

        There is alliteration in each line.

        The final word of line 4 alliterates with the preceding stressed word.

  • Sneadhbhairdne

        A quatrain stanza of alternating 8 syllable lines and four syllable lines with disyllabic endings.

        Lines 2 and 4 rhyme.

        Line 3 consonates with both.

        All words of the final line must rhyme.

        The final word of line 4 must alliterate with the preceding stressed word.​
