PRAYER TO ÁINE

Áine with me lying down,

Áine with me rising up,

Áine with me in each ray of light,

Every day and night.

Áine with me, protecting,

Áine with me, directing,

Áine with me, strengthening,

Forever and for evermore.

Áine (pronounced "awn-ya") has her home in County Limerick where Cnoc Aine bears her name. She is known as Queen of the Fairies, bestowing fertility, love, and protection. Celebrated at Summer Solstice, she has been honored in rituals there as recently as 1879 with bonfires on her Cnoc. The ashes are scattered on the fields as blessings for the crops.
